Where was this when we had young babies????
This switch, the one up high, controls the doorbell. Which means you can turn off the bell at times you don't want to be disturbed, like during the sacred nap time or when you are on an important call.
Genius!! Our dogs barking would probably eliminate the helpfulness of the switch, but I still really appreciate the options!
A newer type of outlet that we've been seeing is a GFCI that beeps when it's been tripped. This is perfect for items like a deep freezer in the garage, electrical aquarium or other automatic pet appliances, or anything else that you would need to know if the power goes out. Super cool!
Continuing our look at shut offs with this week's video. Check it out!
Home owner said that the ceiling fixture had a dusty smell when they turned the fan on at night, similar to the first time a heater is run for the season. Went to replace a bulb, and found this. That’s one burned out bulb, and almost burned up! Beautiful and scary all at the same time! 😳
We hypothesize that the broken filaments were burning every time the light was on, creating the swirling pattern of smoke on the glass. Then the fan pushed that smell down when it was turned on. Glad an open fire never started!
Ever wanted to change a light switch? Not just the face plate, but the actual switch?

Here is Gabe checking out an electric panel. It's one of his favorite tasks on an inspection, and if he could go back in time he would have gotten an electrician certification straight out of high school.
Not only does he check out all the panels in a home, he also does a thermal scan to make sure nothing is running hotter than it should be. Since it's the center of the electric system, a lot of problems can be present in a panel, and he wants to make sure his clients are well-informed.
You'll be "shocked" at how thorough our inspections are!
Why are we so thorough and test everything?
Because we don’t want this to happen to you after you’ve moved in!
Sure, some inspectors might be a little cheaper, but you can bet they are trimming their inspections and cutting out items like kitchen appliances.
While we might take a little longer and charge a little more, your inspection and report will definitely be worth every penny.
In case you've ever wondered, this is what knob and tube wiring looks like!
This is a really old wiring system, and it was phased out in the 40's. If you see this in your house, make sure no insulation is touching it; it can overheat and cause a fire. You should also have an electrician evaluate it due to it's age.
Similar to Facebook, only useful
This is a great place to find interesting pictures, quick little notes, and funny memes. Just like posts you would expect to find on social media. Only these posts are searchable by categories, making this page significantly more useful for reference during a project. Or, just if you don't want to get sucked into the never-ending time-sucking vacuum of the Book of Face. Whichever.
Of course, you can get updates by following us on Facebook too. If you are "in" to that sort of thing.
