Now that the weather is finally cooling down it's time to turn on those fireplaces! Watch this video to see how!!
Want to start your fireplace? Or maybe you need to relight the pilot in a gas fireplace?
At the beginning of the summer we showed you how to turn off your fireplace so that the pilot wasn't on unnecessarily. Watch that video here: https://youtu.be/pxGhF3E_dqg
Now that the weather is finally turning colder and we are officially in the fall season, we will show you how to light a gas fireplace, including how to get that pesky pilot light back on.
And remember, at any point that you smell a strong gas smell, leave the house and call a professional. Better safe than sorry!

Fenix Lighting - If you ever want to send us free flashlights to use and review, we'd more be than happy to take a look at the next generation of personal lighting!
Here’s a #FridayFunny that really made me stop for a second.
This was a picture in the wood tech classroom during the back to school night. At first glance, I chuckled. It’s funny, and fairly true. But the reason I was sitting in the wood tech room is that my daughter is in this class. And she loves to build things. And she is clearly not a man.
I struggled with how she might perceive this message. And I was a little miffed that the stereotype that only men take wood tech was being perpetuated. But then the teacher started his spiel for the night.
And he proceeds to say how excited he is for the record number of female students in his class, how he typically receives great work from them because they tend to pay more attention to details, and how he hopes this trend continues so that his male to female ratio is balanced. And it’s clear that he is not sexist at all, and probably just had the slide included because he thought it was funny without thinking about deeper connotations.
So I am happy she is in this class, even if I might gently point out that the slide should probably get changed. And I hope to see the tide continue to turn in favor of women in whatever fields interest them.
Here’s to the education of all our students!
When I was a teacher we learned how to use a file folder for many different things, only some of which involved filing papers. 😆
One of those was as a wall pocket. Sure you can buy pre-made ones that are fancier, but what’s the fun in that! This will get the job done for practically free and I get to feel industrious at the same time. Woohoo!
1. Cut the bottom along the middle folds about 1” from each side.
2. Fold back the edge on the front flap on each side.
3. Fold that edge again, accordion style.
4. Staple front flap in place creating a pocket
5. Staple to wall or bulletin board as needed.
Check out this week's video! Gabe shares some helpful ladder tips, Erin covers the safety statements. Teamwork is the best!
With the possibility of severe weather, we thought now would be a great time to share some info about supplies and prepping your shelter (and family) for storm safety. Enjoy!
A little family spotlight this Saturday! Here Gabriel is with his oldest and youngest daughters. First was supporting the Technology Student Association (our daughter won 1st in two events!) and second is teaching a quick piano lesson. While business is important, it's important to take time for family too!
While our inspectors enjoy the puzzle of figuring out a home, our manager enjoys the puzzle of putting together new furniture! She did have a little help from the staff.
Just over a year ago, I posted this pic with a comment about how I was the only woman working on site. Since I know many, MANY, strong women, such as my grandmothers, my mom, my sister, my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law, my 3 daughters, and 2 nieces, it was odd to be the only female there.
On this International Day of Women, let's continue to support women in all fields, including construction, STEM, and other "male-dominated" careers.
Similar to Facebook, only useful
This is a great place to find interesting pictures, quick little notes, and funny memes. Just like posts you would expect to find on social media. Only these posts are searchable by categories, making this page significantly more useful for reference during a project. Or, just if you don't want to get sucked into the never-ending time-sucking vacuum of the Book of Face. Whichever.
Of course, you can get updates by following us on Facebook too. If you are "in" to that sort of thing.
