With humidity being higher than usual this summer, we are receiving calls to check for mold problems. Clearly, this ceiling in a vacant home has a problem!
A few things to remember with mold:
1.) Water must be present - Mold needs water to grow, so part of our inspection will be to find the water source. We find leaks are the most likely cause, but also condensation in crawl spaces and vents can cause issues.
2.) Air quality being affected is actually the concern - Mold spores are naturally present in the air, so we compare the mold counts outside with indoor samples to see if there is a problem. Even though any visible mold is gross, it might not be affecting your health. But it might be, and taking air samples is the only way to know for sure.
3.) Samples aren't cheap - It does cost money for the air samples and inspection, however if you have significant concerns you don't want to go cheap. Taking a good number of representative samples is the only way to get a good picture of what is actually happening inside a home.
It's Wednesday, so that means it's time for a video! We actually learned this trick while working in property preservation. It's quite handy!
The rain might not be the only water you are hearing today! We often find plumbing leaks in crawl spaces, which is why we crawl under houses whenever possible. If your home is old enough to have a crawl space, odds are good you need to check your pipes for leaks and other issues.
As always, give us a call or send us a message if you have any questions or concerns!
Don't get caught unaware, check out our new video on water shutoffs!
It's Wednesday, so it's time for a new video! This week Gabe shows you how to replace a stem in a sink handle. Now we won't have that awesome water hammer effect every time the sink is used!
For this video we took about an hour's worth of work and showed it in about 8 minutes. I wish projects could be sped up like that in real life!
Take a look and let us know your thoughts, suggestions, and future video requests in the comments below!
Similar to Facebook, only useful
This is a great place to find interesting pictures, quick little notes, and funny memes. Just like posts you would expect to find on social media. Only these posts are searchable by categories, making this page significantly more useful for reference during a project. Or, just if you don't want to get sucked into the never-ending time-sucking vacuum of the Book of Face. Whichever.
Of course, you can get updates by following us on Facebook too. If you are "in" to that sort of thing.
